For this new call for projects, the Immersion program of the center Adélard adopts a common theme to foster dialogue between artists' research and deepen their exchanges with the community. The residency projects presented at the barn in 2027 will be on the theme of "Awakening." We offer some points for reflection to applicants in the text below.
Is simply opening our eyes enough to see things differently? Waking up can be conceived as a threshold, a liminal state where our perception of reality remains inhabited by the possibilities of dreams. In this interstice between sleep and wakefulness, Jacques Derrida invited us to "cultivate vigilance and alertness, while remaining attentive to meaning, faithful to the teachings and lucidity of a dream."*
Awakening is experienced in the body. Through sight, listening to sensations, or contemplation, certain artistic approaches invite us to rekindle our attention to what habit renders imperceptible and to make ourselves available to others and to the world.
What dreams of progress must we awaken from? In dialogue with today's world or science fiction, art questions technological promises, invents speculative narratives and reveals images to propose other horizons.
Awakening can also cause disorientation. Following the work of Sara Ahmed**, it invites us to question assigned roles, conventions, expected trajectories, and ways of being and loving taken for granted. Art can challenge norms and open up other ways of building community.
Awakening compels us to act. What does it mean to be awake to injustice? How does art shape our vigilance and transform what seemed inevitable? How can art foster resistance or spark collective action?
We invite artists to explore liminal spaces, to disrupt the ordinary course of things, and to make awakening an experience to be shared with the community Adélard.

Immersion Residences
Adélard offers 6-week immersion residencies for professional visual artists. This residency program is based on two main pillars: providing time and space to develop a project on the one hand, and creating links with the local community on the other.
Depending on the needs of their project, the artist will have the opportunity to collaborate with local artists, craftsmen or partners to exchange specific know-how, to explore or to invest in the territory.
An open residence
During the week, the barn of Adélard, the space where the studio is located is reserved for artists, with a few exceptions. On Saturdays and Sundays, artists can continue their work, while the barn is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to visit the barn, meet the artist, see an exhibition, and/or participate in cultural outreach activities.
Cultural mediation
In accordance with the mission of Adélard, the artist in residence commits to participating in at least one cultural mediation activity with a school or community organization. These activities, related to the artist's project, are developed in consultation with the educational activities coordinator Adélard.
The barn
The immersion residencies take place in a heritage barn located in the heart of the village of Frelighsburg. The space is welcoming and warm, relatively large and well-lit. It is informally divided into three zones: a workshop area, an exhibition area, and a mediation area. The large table, located in the heart of the barn, invites discussion, exchange, work, and reflection. Artists can use different parts of the space to develop their projects. Some equipment and services are available to artists, including a refrigerator, a sink, internet access, and a few tools.
Presentation of works
Upstairs in the barn, Adélard offers artists an exhibition space to present their previous work and engage in dialogue with the public (Saturday and Sunday).
A system of display panels and lighting is provided. The selection of artworks will be subject to prior discussion with the organization's management.
