at the Bishop Stewart Memorial Church;
Gerardo Montiel Klint is the third Mexican artist to be hosted as part of a partnership with the Mexican Cultural Institute in Montreal.
Gerardo Montiel Klint is particularly interested in the photographic image as a phenomenon of ideological transition and its repercussions on the collective imagination.
At the crossroads of photography and sound art, her project entitled Oscillator explores art as a means of transforming reality and time. The project is conceived as a memorial device, capable of evoking memories and reactivating absent presences.
This collaborative project draws on family photographic archives and the collective memory of local communities. It evokes the figures of ancestors, the deceased, and bygone childhoods to create a space for shared reflection.
Through this exploration, Gerardo Montiel Klint proposes a form of social acupuncture: a cross-examination of oneself and others, where the aesthetic experience is born from the reactivation of buried memories.
