Eight views of mont Pinacle

An exhibition resulting from creative workshops conducted by Emmanuelle Jacques at the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes school in Saint-Armand, as part of the School in Residence program.

May 16 - September 7, 2026

The exhibition Eight Views of mont Pinacle brings together a series of eight works on paper, framed in window frames. These collaborative pieces offer as many perspectives on the mont Pinacle , a landmark that is simultaneously geographical, scenic and symbolic of the region.

Each of these images is composed of large blocks of color, on which first names are stamped: Jacobus, Mary, Justus, Elisa, Flavia… These names are those of Black people who settled in the region in the 19th century, notably found in the archives of the Missisquoi Museum in Stanbridge East. These people lived in Frelighsburg , in Saint-Armand and, for some of them, worked on the mont Pinacle , then a hill occupied by numerous farms.

During the workshops, artist Emmanuelle Jacques raised students' awareness of the significant contribution of Black communities to the region in the 19th century. Through artistic expression, she invited them to recognize the place of these individuals in local history, even though their presence has too often been rendered invisible in official historical accounts.

All the students at the Saint-Armand school participated in these collective creations. Together, they helped to reinscribe these names in the landscape and to pay tribute to people of whom only a few fragments of existence remain today in the archives and the local landscape.

The School in Residence program is made possible thanks to the generous support of Project Casa.
