Adélard invites artists to submit applications for the 2021 season of immersive residencies

At least three artists will be chosen for the next season

Frelighsburg, Québec, October 18, 2020 — Adélard is pleased to announce its call for applications for its next season, which will take place from May to October 2021 in the heart of the village of Frelighsburg. Artists may submit an application from now to November 25, at 5:00 pm EST, at adelard.org.

Adélard is intended for emerging and established professional visual artists of all disciplines, from both Canada and abroad. Adélard is a contemporary art activator that offers immersive residencies in Frelighsburg for research, creation, and encounters with the community, in the spirit of Adélard’s mission to bring artists and citizens together.

The selection jury, composed mainly of peers, will choose at least three artists for this third edition. The artists chosen will be offered a six-week immersive residency with free access to the studio in the centre of the village, lodging, an honorarium for the residency and for any mediation activity, and, as needed, support from the dynamic community of artists and artisans in the region.

« Under the unusual circumstances of the pandemic, we did everything possible to host artists in full compliance with public health measures, noted Sébastien Barangé, chair of the Adélard board of directors. The sincere enthusiasm of the artists and the support from the community made the 2020 season a great success. We’re eager to develop our mission and cultural mediation activities even further, and so we’re looking forward to receiving project proposals from artists for the 2021 season. »

Comments by artists in the 2020 immersive residency :

« Thanks to the welcome offered by its community and its lively environment, Adélard provided a valuable time for research and creation on the border, a rare opportunity to replenish energy, well adapted to the difficult historical context. » - Michel Huneault, in residency between September 1 and October 11

« The year 2020, which was promising to be strange and morose, was uplifted and made beautiful by the residency in Frelighsburg. I owe this essentially to the expert team that hosted me so well, and to the many visitors with whom I had a chance to have fruitful discussions that often helped me with my research. Finally, the peaceful calm of the village and the barn, as well as of the beauty of the natural setting, literally inhabited me during the stay, no doubt triggering a positive evolution in my work. » - Émilie Bernard, in residency between July 21 and August 30

« A wonderful experience in an engaged community. The opportunity offered by the residency to take a break and engage in retrospection is an asset – and, I would say, even a priceless privilege – to my approach to my art. I’m grateful to the dynamic team.» - Alain Lefort in residency between June 9 and July 19
